Lex’s Adventures: Mario the lizard

Following one of his basketball games, Lex’s real-life experience inspired the creation of Mario The Lizard. Remember that he wrote this book at the age of five. He saved the lizard from our outdoor cat, Stormy. This book contains a collection of Lex’s experiences, most of which occur in his backyard.

During the pandemic, Lex wrote his first book, Lex Adventures: The Lost Lava Rock. Lex’s therapist encouraged him to be more active after losing his ability to speak during the pandemic. Lex’s therapist advised him not to write a book but to read more books, play sports, and participate in more family activities to aid him with his speech rehabilitation. Lex was devastated by his father’s Covid-19 recovery. Lex and his father read books and told stories every morning over breakfast. Lex gained the courage to talk again with the help of his speech pathologist and morning stories with his dad. One of the stories Lex would share with his dad was about lava rocks and wild animals. When The Lost Lava Rock was published, he spoke to hundreds of people at colleges and elementary schools. No one was aware of Lex’s speech impediment.

Lex’s Adventures: dinosaurs in the bed

Lex’s dad, Alex Avila, would take his son to different dinosaur museums, especially during the Pandemic. Afterward, Lex began to talk about his desire to be a dinosaur and his curiosity about what it would be like if he were to spend a day in the role of a dinosaur. Lex started this story at age four and has spoken and rewritten Dinosaur in the Bed over fifteen times. The first part of this story, Lex created, took place while his dad and son wore their jammies and ate breakfast, creating Lex’s Adventures: Dinosaur in the Bed.

This book aims to encourage children’s imagination, literacy, and old-fashioned fun. Lex still goes outside to play and laugh and occasionally comes back home with some minor scratches. The art of being young is constantly being challenged by technology, but this book hopes to preserve a sense of youthfulness.

lex’s adventures: the lost lava rock

Lex’s Adventures: The Lost Lava Rock is a children’s book that explores themes such as nature, identity, migration, finding a home, and kindness. Lex is the protagonist, and he is always on the quest for an educational adventure.

The goal is to encourage literacy and the love of science for children and young adults. In order to address environmental, racial, and economic inequities, we must start to break down barriers through fun, engaging methods that excite a generation to want to make a change.
